Firstly, my apologies for the delay in getting this newsletter out. Between the Cycle Tour to Cape Town and taking a bit of well-earned leave, time got away from me!
A massive thank you to Mac, and to our wives Janine and Iona, for all their incredible support during the tour. Without the ladies, the experience wouldn’t have been nearly as enjoyable. Their help made a huge difference.
Mac was truly an inspiration throughout – a real soldier from start to finish.
In total, we covered 1,265km to Cape Town. We were lucky to have good weather for most of the journey, but the final day into Gordon’s Bay was something special. As we arrived, the ladies and staff at the Gordon’s Bay Yacht Club welcomed us with a rousing rendition of “We Are the Champions”. If only that were true – the real champions are our residents.
We’ve been truly blessed by the generous donations we’ve received for our Pedal for Power fundraiser. Thank you to everyone who’s contributed.
To help both our new and long-standing parents, here are a few important reminders:
Weekend Collections: If you plan to collect your child for the weekend, please let us know in advance, along with their return time. This information is crucial for managing meal planning, which is done early each morning.
Medication: All medication must be signed out and returned via the Sister on duty. If she isn’t in her office when you arrive, she may be assisting another resident – thank you for your patience.
Alternate Collection Arrangements: If someone else is collecting your child, we must receive their name and ID number ahead of time. Without this, we cannot release your child – this policy is in place for everyone’s safety and is non-negotiable.
Switchboard Update: Our upgraded switchboard is now live – you can reach us at 043 741 1193. Follow the voice prompts to connect to the relevant hostel (e.g., press 1 for Crewe, 2 for Brent).
Call Times: Please note that calls to residents during the week are only permitted after 16:30. We’re unable to call them out of the Work Centre during the day as it disrupts their routine. For anything urgent, please contact the office directly.
Thanks again for your continued support.
