Choir practice
Various activities are arranged for our residents on a regular basis. Birthdays are celebrated with a jolly dance party in our Hall once every quarter. Cooldrinks, snacks, cake, music and dancing ensure that everyone has a marvelous time at the birthday-party.
Regular outings are arranged for our residents who are often invited to teas, plays and various other events hosted by churches, charity clubs and other institutions throughout the year.
Our Choir is regularly asked to sing at various congregations and old aged homes. They are also the main feature at our annual concert.
Our residents are also treated to a day of relaxation at our swimming pools where a braai is prepared for them. This day is fondly called “Fun in the Sun” by our residents.
Residents not fortunate enough to have families to spend Christmas Season with and who must remain at the Centre are treated to a special Christmas Party during the December holidays. Presents are mostly sponsored by Rotary Clubs and other caring organizations. Presents are personally delivered by Santa much to the joy of each resident.
Christmas & New Year’s Day meals are special events and a lot of planning goes into the preparation of these lunches. All efforts are made to make it as enjoyable and homely as possible for all our residents and these meals are mostly made possible with food donations from kind hearted benefactors.
How We Are Funded
Our Centre receives a subsidy in respect of each one of the 73 residents who are accommodated in our three hostels. Regrettably, these subsidies cover only approximately 35% of the Centre’s running expenses. The shortfall of 65% has to be made up from fundraising events held throughout the year and donations received from our kind-hearted benefactors.
No Government funding is received for our Protected Workshop and all overhead costs for this division are covered by the residential subsidies and hostel surcharges.
It, therefore, is not surprising that the Centre has been facing financial difficulties for a considerable time. Donations and fundraising have steadily become more difficult due to the current economic climate.
Recent information received indicates that a strong possibility exists of state funding currently received in the form of subsidies, being reduced substantially.
