Christmas Carol Concert – 4 December 2025 at 18h00

Our residents are eagerly preparing for their final concert of the year. It is truly heart warming to hear them rehearse and to see how deeply the songs resonate with them.

Tickets are R70.00 each and include a hamburger and coffee or tea.

Sustainability Project Update

Our Sustainability Project has reached an exciting new milestone with the Disability Economic Empowerment Trust (DEET) joining as a key partner, alongside Husqvarna. This collaboration offers valuable opportunities for all parties involved.

DEET will provide subsistence farming training to persons with disabilities from the local community. As part of this initiative, vegetables will be cultivated on site at McClelland for our use. This partnership not only supports community skills development but also creates meaningful learning experiences for our residents.

Our potatoes have sprouted successfully and we are expanding the vegetable garden next to the Bakery.

Work Centre

The Work Centre will close on 12 December 2025 and reopen on 12 January 2026.
Please note that the hostels will remain open and continue operating as normal.
The Bakery will accept final orders on 9 December 2025 and will be closed from 12 December 2025 to 12 January 2026.

McClelland Market Day 2025

The 2025 McClelland Market Day was a vibrant and successful event, featuring a variety of activities, numerous stalls, and the popular Potjie Competition between the Rotary Clubs of East London.

The weather was ideal, overcast and comfortably cool, creating the perfect atmosphere for a day filled with community engagement and enjoyment. The event was formally opened by our talented McClelland dancers, who delivered an outstanding performance. Well done to our residents for setting such a positive tone for the day.

An event of this scale is possible only through the dedication and teamwork of many individuals. We extend our sincere appreciation to Loraine and her team, as well as all facilitators, for their hard work and coordination. Special thanks to Jarred and David from Aztec Electrical, Neshnee, Clint, and Tish from LinkFM, and Clair from Halcyon Insurance and LinkFM for their generous support and contributions.

The Potjie Competition brought a spirit of friendly rivalry among the participating Rotary Clubs, each vying for the title of Potjie King 2025. Congratulations to the Rotary Club of Bonza Bay on securing first place. We also extend our gratitude to all other participating clubs for their enthusiasm and sportsmanship.

Our sincere thanks go to the panel of judges for their time and expertise. The competition was exceptionally close, with only one point separating first and second place, which added to the excitement of the day.

Lastly, we extend heartfelt thanks to everyone who attended and supported McClelland Market Day. Your participation made the event memorable and we look forward to welcoming you again next year.

As this is our final newsletter for the year, we would like to extend our sincere appreciation to all parents, friends of McClelland, and everyone who has supported us throughout the past year. Your commitment and encouragement have played a vital role in helping us achieve our goals.

We would also like to take this opportunity to wish you and your families a joyful festive season and a prosperous New Year.
