🪵 The Firestarter Project Sparks Joy

We have been incredibly fortunate to receive a massive timber pallet donation from Stutt Group! If you have visited the Centre recently, you will have noticed our front parking area is absolutely crammed with pallets. Many of our residents are over the moon to have sufficient stock to keep them happily busy in our workshop simulation program for a long time to come.

🎭Save the Date: Annual Winter Concert! Date: 30 July 2026

Our residents and facilitators are already hard at work on our next big stage production. Based on the incredible energy and effort being put into rehearsals right now, it promises to be another fantastic, heartwarming show. Please make sure to save the date in your calendars—tickets and details will follow soon!

☀️Garden Party Success!

The 2026 Annual Garden Party was truly blessed with spectacular weather and a completely full house. For those who couldn’t make it, you missed out on a wonderful afternoon!
The sun shone down beautifully as the air filled with fantastic live music by Bryan Daniel. The McClelland team was out in full force with our famous tarts and biscuits, which completely sold out!

  • A Heartfelt Thank You: We extend a massive thank you to everyone who bought tickets and supported the event. We are incredibly grateful to you all for making the afternoon so memorable.
  • Special Gratitude: A deep, sincere thank you goes to Bridgette and Theo for opening up their stunning home as our venue this year. Your deep commitment to supporting McClelland is highly commendable.
  • Thank you also to the many hands behind the scenes who volunteered, baked, and set up to make the day an absolute triumph.

🏛️Corporate Partnership Drive: Section 18A Tax Appeal

McClelland Adult Centre plays a crucial role in enhancing the quality of life for our intellectually impaired adults and their families. Currently home to approximately 70 permanent residents, we provide safe 24-hour accommodation, nutritious meals, medical oversight, and vital therapeutic activities.
Therapy Highlight: A recent highlight has been the introduction of our two therapy donkeys, McBean and McDonald. Privately funded, “The Boys” have brought immense joy, calming effects, and a deep sense of dignity to those in our care.

The Financial Reality

As a Non-Profit Organisation (NPO), we are largely dependent on government social grants. Unfortunately, these subsidies are deeply inadequate—they fail to cover our residents’ basic everyday needs and barely contribute to our human resource costs.
Because our residents have high-dependency needs, we maintain a near 1:1 staff-to-resident ratio. This dedicated team spans specialized medical staff, facilitators, house mothers, carers, kitchen, and maintenance staff.

Despite tireless internal fundraising projects, the rising costs of food, utilities, and labour have placed us in a challenging position. We have not received a grant increase from the Department of Social Development in many years, leaving the Centre with an operational deficit of approximately R100,000.00 per month.

💼 The Corporate Advantage: How Your Business Wins
To bridge this operational gap, we have launched a corporate partnership drive centred around Section 18A of the Income Tax Act. As a SARS-approved Public Benefit Organisation (PBO), McClelland is authorized to issue Section 18A tax certificates, allowing South African companies to deduct qualifying donations directly from their taxable income.

How the Tax Deduction Works:
  • Donations to a Section 18A-approved PBO are deductible up to 10% of a company’s taxable income for the year of assessment.
  • Any amount exceeding that 10% limit can be carried forward and deducted in the following financial year.
Financial Metric Calculation Example
Company Taxable Income R800,000.00
Bona Fide Donation to McClelland R100,000.00
Current Year Tax Deduction (10% Limit) - R80,000.00
Adjusted Current Year Taxable Income R720,000.00
Rollover Deduction (Carried Forward) R20,000.00 (Deductible next financial year)
To qualify, donations must be bona fide (either cash or in-kind property) and not structured as a commercial exchange. Section 18A certificates are issued bi-annually by the Centre.
🛡️ Accountability You Can Trust
To ensure total transparency for our corporate partners, McClelland operates under strict internal management controls and undergoes a rigorous annual independent audit, ensuring that every cent is properly accounted for and directly benefits our residents.
✉️ Our Request
We invite your organization to partner with us to safeguard the longevity of our facility. We are actively seeking corporate sponsors open to:
  • A sustainable monthly contribution of R5,000.00
  • Or a once-off lump-sum donation of your choosing.
By directing funds that would otherwise go to SARS toward McClelland, your business actively manages its taxable income while directly uplifting a deeply impactful local community cause.
