A New Year Well Underway

We are already past the midpoint of the first month of the New Year, and it is remarkable how quickly time has passed. The Centre has come alive again as most of our residents have now returned from their holidays, bringing with them a sense of excitement and renewed energy.

Holiday Returns and Festive Stories

It has been a pleasure to listen to residents sharing their holiday stories, activities, and memories. One of the highlights has been hearing about Christmas Day and, of course, what Father Christmas brought them. These conversations have added warmth and connection as everyone settles back into daily routines.

Remembering Those Who Stayed Behind

We would also like to spare a thought for the residents who remained at the Centre during the festive season without family or visitors. At McClelland Adult Centre, they were not forgotten. We extend our sincere gratitude to the Rotary Club of Bonza Bay for including McClelland in their Tree of Joy campaign. All residents who stayed over the Christmas period received a gift to open on Christmas Day, ensuring they too experienced the joy of the season.

Christmas Day Celebrations

A wonderful Christmas lunch was prepared and enjoyed by both residents and staff. The shared meal added to the festive atmosphere and created a special moment of togetherness for everyone involved.

New Year’s Day at the Centre

New Year’s Day celebrations were equally meaningful, with gammon prepared for all our residents. A heartfelt thank you goes to Tony Cotterell for generously donating the gammons to the Centre. We also extend our appreciation to Rotarian Willem Westraad and his family for volunteering their time to prepare the meal.

Our kitchen staff once again went above and beyond in making these celebrations a success. Thank you, ladies. We are extremely proud of you.

Community Support and the Firestarter Project

We have been truly blessed by several companies that donated pallets and various pieces of wood for our Firestarter Project. Our yard is now overflowing, which puts us in a very fortunate position and allows the project to continue growing.

Progress in Sustainability Efforts

Our vegetable garden, which forms part of our sustainability project, is progressing well and beginning to take shape. We anticipate harvesting our potatoes soon. At the same time, we are hopeful for some much-needed rain, as the vegetables are currently under significant strain due to the ongoing heat.

Keeping the Centre Looking Its Best

Our maintenance team has been working diligently on preventative maintenance throughout the Centre. Thanks to their consistent efforts, the gardens are looking pristine and well cared for.

Lastly, we extend a warm welcome to the new residents who have joined the Centre. We hope that they will enjoy their stay with us and feel at home as part of our community.
