As we move into April, the McClelland Centre is a hive of activity. The energy is vibrant, and it is wonderful to see how our residents have so wholeheartedly embraced the recent developments within our community.
The centre has embarked on an exciting new therapeutic initiative. We are thrilled to introduce McBean and McDonald, our two new therapy donkeys. Both were acquired from the SPCA, creating a “win-win” situation: we have provided a loving home for these two animals, and in return, they are providing invaluable stimulation for our residents.
The Benefits of Donkey Therapy:
Emotional Safety: The “calming mirror” effect helps significantly reduce resident anxiety.
Sensory Integration: Providing vital tactile and auditory stimulation, particularly for our non-verbal residents.
Motor Skills: Activities such as brushing and walking the donkeys serve as excellent hands-on Occupational Therapy.
The residents have all been introduced to McBean and McDonald, and the connection was instant. We are already seeing remarkable progress; for two residents in particular, we have noted a decrease in aggression and a move toward more extroverted behavior. Seeing the smiles on their faces while they stroke the donkeys is truly heartwarming.
We have been incredibly fortunate this year with generous donations of Easter eggs.
Round Table #1 visited us with the Easter Bunny to hand-deliver treats to every resident.
Selborne College organized a dedicated Easter egg fundraiser to support those less fortunate.
Thank you to both organizations for your kindness and for thinking of our residents during this special season.
Stuttgroup has been a total game-changer for our workshop. They have already delivered four large truckloads of pallets for our residents to process, with another load arriving shortly. The joy on the residents’ faces as they watched the trucks offloading was a sight to behold. Thank you, Stuttgroup, for your incredible support of our vocational programs.

Our facilitators are already hard at work arranging a Resident Concert to be held in June/July. We will be communicating the official dates in the near future—watch this space for more details!
